Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (450g) peeled and cubed Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
  • 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) maple syrup
  • 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp (15g) rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp (12g) brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15g) melted butter

Instructions:

  1. Cube the apples into consistent 1/2-inch to 1-inch pieces. Immediately toss them with lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat in a large non-stick skillet. Add the apples and sauté for 5-7 minutes until the edges turn a deep mahogany brown.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple syrup. Continue stirring constantly until the liquid reduces into a thick, velvety syrup that coats the fruit.
  4. In a separate small pan, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, and melted butter over high heat for 60 seconds until the sugar bubbles and smells nutty. Sprinkle this crunch over the warm apples immediately.
