Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Heat the toasted sesame oil in a large cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing for 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Let it sear undisturbed for 5-7 minutes to develop a caramelized crust. Break the meat into small crumbles with a wooden spoon and continue cooking until fully browned. Drain any excess rendered fat.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce, honey, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the beef and allow the sauce to reduce for 2-3 minutes until it forms a thick, lacquer-like glaze.
  4. Divide the cooked jasmine rice into four bowls. Top with the glazed beef and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
